JOE AND LITTLE JOE

“There is an endless net of threads throughout the universe... At every crossing of the threads there is an individual. And every individual is a crystal bead. And every crystal bead reflects not only the light from every other crystal in the net but also every other reflection throughout the entire universe.” ~ Indra’s net

I have always said, “Real success is how you make a difference in people’s lives.” When you hear about something good happening to someone you never met because of something you did, it’s really awesome!

I was having coffee with a DJ I had met in Nashville, Tennessee. Her name was Andie, and she had worked at WWWW Radio in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was excited to learn I wrote the song, Jose Cuervo.

“I have a great story about Jose Cuervo I want to tell you,” she said with enthusiasm.

“It’s really cool.”

“I love Jose Cuervo stories!” I told her.

The phone rang at the station one morning and this guy says, “Hi! This is Joe. Can you play Jose Cuervo for my son Little Joe so he can sing and dance?”
He was live on the air. “Sure I can! How old is your son??” Andie asked.

“He’s seven.” Joe answered.

“Hmmm…” Andie said. “That’s interesting. You’re sure Jose Cuervo is one of his favorite songs??”
Joe continued, “Little Joe knows all the words to Jose Cuervo and he just loves to sing the song. He even made up a little dance routine.”

“Well Ok then,” said Andie. “And now we have Jose Cuervo, by Shelly West for Little

Joe so he can sing and dance!”

This went on for weeks. Every few days Joe would call and request Jose Cuervo for Little Joe so he could sing and dance. Andie and Joe would have brief conversations. At one point Joe shared the fact that Little Joe’s Mama had died a few months before. He would always say, “The song just makes him happy.”

Andie had been receiving his regular calls from Joe requesting Jose Cuervo so he and his son could sing and dance. Then all of a sudden several weeks went by where Andie hadn’t heard anything from Joe.

Finally one day the phone rang and it was Joe!

“Joe!! Where’ve you been??” Andie exclaimed. “We’ve missed you!”

“Things haven’t been too good lately,” Joe said. “Our house burned down. Can you play Jose Cuervo for my son, Little Joe so he can sing and dance! It sure would make him happy.”

The listening audience had heard about a man who had lost his wife, and his house had burned down. It was Joe!

Furniture, clothes, money and household necessities showed up for Joe and his son through the radio station. Friends he had never met were there to help. All because Little Joe loved to sing and dance to Jose Cuervo.

Every day we all have the opportunity to touch someone’s life in a positive way. When we perform an act of kindness, it acts like a pebble that has been cast into crystal blue, still water. The rippling effect goes on forever and touches people you will never know. This is because we are all connected with the golden thread of God’s great love.

The story deeply touched my heart. Just think if everyone in the world was only kind and shared their blessings with others we would have a perfect world.
